The teapot is considered to be one of the essential pieces in any potter’s arsenal. Making this ubiquitous object is not as easy as it may appear to be. Decisions along the way make it into a joy to handle and use, or into a purely decorative but non-functional trinket. In this class, you will learn how to plan and make the parts of a teapot and assemble them safely and effectively.
Because of the complexity of this project, students should be comfortable on the wheel before registering for this class.
Students are asked to bring their favourite ceramic tools. Clay will be provided along with the use of studio tools.
There will be 5 weeks in a row and then we will skip a week before coming back to glaze.
- May 26: Throwing the body, lid, and spouts.
- June 2: Trimming the body and lid; assembling the teapot.
- June 16: Finishing the teapot.
- June 23: Break
- June 30: Glazing the teapot.
