Job description: Executive Director – La Fab Sur Mill Arts Center

Playing a key leadership role and reporting to the Executive Committee, the Executive Director will oversee the overall operations and strategic direction of the arts center. The Centre des arts La Fab sur Mill is a cultural organization rooted in the community of Chelsea and the Outaouais. Through its activities in performing arts, visual arts, cultural mediation, and community events, La Fab promotes access to culture, civic participation, and encounters between artists, audiences, and members of the community.

Remuneration: between $80,000 and $99,000.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors to advance the mission and goals of the arts center.
  • Provide strong leadership, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that promotes artistic excellence, community engagement, and cultural diversity.
  • Ensure effective resource management, and adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Nurture relationships with community partners, artists, donors, and stakeholders to expand networks, secure funding, and enhance the arts center's reputation.

Grant Writing and Revenue Generation:

  • Identify and pursue grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies, and other funding sources to support programs, operations, and capital projects.
  • Prepare compelling grant proposals, applications, and reports, demonstrating the impact and value of the arts center's initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and staff to develop fundraising strategies that align with the arts center's mission and financial needs.

Management & Administration:

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to oversee financial reporting, monitor revenue and expenses, and prepare regular financial statements for the Board of Directors and funding partners.
  • Implement sound financial practices, including cash flow management, expense control, and compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Manage the building infrastructure and systems.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers for the center’s activities.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to other staff members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture. Oversee staff recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations.

 
Marketing and Promotion:

  • Collaborate with the sectoral committees to create and execute marketing campaigns, social media initiatives, and promotional materials.
  • Develop and implement communications and marketing strategies to increase the arts center’s visibility, attract audiences, and engage the community.
  • Maintain relationships with local media outlets and seek opportunities for press coverage, interviews, and features.
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all marketing channels and materials.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience reflecting strong leadership and managerial skills.
  • Proven experience in grant writing and financial management in the nonprofit sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
  • Experience in marketing and community engagement strategies.
  • Strong personal organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of and passion for the visual and performing arts, with an understanding of the arts sector and its challenges.

The Executive Director must be available for some flexible work hours, including some weekends and must be available to work on site at the arts center.
