Jae Shaw

After receiving a degree in Business Administration from York University in Toronto and subsequently working for several years, Jae decided to return to school to pursue fine arts. She received her art education at the University of Ottawa, the Ottawa School of Art, St. Lawrence College in Brockville and at various private art centres.

Jae went on to own and operate the Oxford Mills Arts Centre for 13 years and Art Link for 3 years, selling her artworks, art supplies and teaching adults and children in her studio, and at the North Grenville Township, the Nepean Visual Arts Centre and the Upper Canada District Schoolboard. She is a past member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour and Art Lending of Ottawa and is a past Fellow of the Ottawa Watercolour Society.

At the beginning of her art career, Jae painted almost exclusively with watercolours. Looking for ways to broaden the exploration and expression of her subject matter, she began to paint with oils and acrylics. More recently she has added appliqué beading to her visual toolbox.

Nature – trees, leaves and landscapes – is the most common theme of Jae’s artwork. On occasion, her depiction of nature moves beyond a simple focus on beauty to explore man’s place within it. The human condition and basic design elements are other motifs Jae is interested in.  While her paintings are often highly rendered, she sometimes pushes her work towards abstraction if the theme or message requires it.

Jae’s art can be found at La Fab Arts Centre in Chelsea, Quebec. You can connect with her through social media on Instagram and Facebook.
