The Magic of Marbling Paper with Patti Harper

This workshop is held at Carleton University Lab Saturday, Oct 24
Take part in the art of paper marbling in this fun, hands-on workshop using professional marbling trays, quality paints, and high-grade paper. Perfect for beginners, this course also provides an excellent opportunity for those with previous marbling experience to refine their skills and gain more practice.
You’ll learn about preparations for marbling, the bath, paper, and paints. We will use a variety of combs to really concentrate on mastering the three basic patterns and one more intricate pattern from each of the base patterns.  You will learn techniques to pull clean, successful prints. The day will be spent with lots of time for practice and experimenting.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a collection of unique marbled papers to take home for bookbinding, card making, collage, and other creative projects. Aprons are provided. Please wear shoes with good grip that you don’t mind getting wet or splashed. Some papers may still be drying at the end of the day; plastic bags will be provided, or you may arrange to pick them up late.

Paper, paint and all supplies are included, however, if you have coloured paper such as Canson mi-teintes (we know it holds up) feel free to bring it to class! You will be shown how to prepare papers for marbling.

Suitable for beginners and all experience levels.   Instruction is in English only

Patti Harper is a senior archivist who co-founded the Book Arts Lab at the Carleton University Library.
