Her work has been collected nationally and internationally. She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) and the Quebec Sculpture Society (CSQ). SUMMARY:Eco-Dyeing : Creating Prints from Leaves and Blossoms
DESCRIPTION:Create stunning botanical prints using real ferns\, leaves\, and flowers in this immersive eco-dyeing workshop with artist Katharine Fletcher. After a short introduction to the technique\, Katharine leads a one-hour walk (on uneven ground) at Spiritwood\, her hobby farm where she will identify the plants you’ll be seeing. Then you will collect specimens for your artwork. Back in the studio\, you’ll compose your botanicals inside prepared folded watercolour paper “sandwiches”\, bind them securely\, and put them into a cauldron (aka a “dirty pot”) of water\, vinegar\, rusted iron and onion skins. As they simmer away\, our group will have lunch. After about an hour or so\, we will remove them from the cauldron\, cool the bundles\, and then unwrap the watercolour “sandwiches.” Et voilà! SUMMARY:THINKING WITH COLOUR: 4 Workshops with Emily Rose Michaud
DESCRIPTION:SEPT 20\,   12:00 pm-3:00pm Thinking with Colour\, I – Cyanotype 101: Printing with Nature\nCyanotype\, also known as blueprint or sunprint\, is a photographic print distinguished by its cyan blue colour. These prints are made by treating a surface (paper\, textile\, leather) with iron salts that react to UV light or sunlight.In this workshop\, you’ll learn the basic principles and techniques for creating cyanotype prints\, from working with photosensitivemediums to developing and drying prints\, experimenting with different objects\, surfaces and treatments such as lemon and salt and botanical toning (immersing the final print in a bath of tannins such as tea or coffee to alter the tone of the blueprint). We will be developing our prints using the sunlight as well as UV lights.\nWorkshop #1 of 4 and beginning of design process for collective artwork in February\, alongside Emily’s works in the gallery.  \nOCTOBER 18\,  9:00-12:00\n2. Thinking with Colour\, II — Botanical inks 101\nCreating our own ink is not only fun\, it reconnects us to our art materials\, each other and the earth. We all have stories to share about colour\, or perhaps family recipes to exchange. Workshop participants will produce a series of inks based on age-old recipes used throughout art history\, using mineral and earth-based pigments sourced from the territory and abroad.What is ink and how it is made? What forms of pigment may be created from the surrounding landscapes and what stories do we carry about colour from our places of origin or life memories? Where do we find and how might we process colour? How can  we forage and extract colour respectfully while being inspired by nature’s palette? All these questions will be answered and more in this lively class.Boundless colours and all manner of botanical inks can be made when we consider the materials that abound beneath our feet and before our eyes: Vine\, tinted soil\, metal\, spice\, soft stone\, root\, soot\, mica\, shell\, nut\, berry\, clay\, bone\, lichen\, chalk\, rusty nail\, black walnut\, copper\, wild grape\, drywall dust\, common weed.\nWorkshop #2 of 4. SUMMARY:Tuesday Mornings with Jamie:  Linocut Printmaking Series
DESCRIPTION:Get inky with linocut artist Jamie Munro in this 6 week Tuesday  morning series\, Sept 29- Nov 3. This class is ideal for beginners or anyone with some prior linocut experience who wants to build confidence doing linocut drawings. You’ll focus on creating and transferring images to lino tiles and use a variety of colour inks in your prints. Techniques that demonstrate movement and depth will also be taught.  Expect a relaxed\, creative atmosphere with plenty of room to experiment. All materials are provided—\nTaught in English only. \n.       \n  \n \nJamie has been drawing and painting in the Gatineau Hills since 1982. Like many artists in the Outaouais\, he is drawn to the natural beauty of his surroundings\, and his recent work puts that front and center through some pretty unique media: original block prints on paper and acrylic paintings on lightweight cedar panels salvaged from unrepairable canoes.

SUMMARY:Watercolour Class for Beginners with Jae Shaw
DESCRIPTION:This 8-week watercolour course is designed to help beginners and those who have some experience to  build confidence and develop a strong foundation in the medium. Participants will learn everything they need to get started\, from choosing the right supplies to mastering essential techniques such as watercolour washes\, brushwork\, colour theory\, texture\, preserving whites\, and composition. Through a series of guided projects\, including an abstract\, a landscape and a still life\, students will also learn how to use photographs as a source of inspiration and reference. By the end of the course\, each participant will have the skills and confidence to continue their own creative journey in watercolour. \n \nYour instructor will be local artist Jae Shaw. Jae is the past owner and operator of Oxford Mills Art Centre where she taught watercolours for over a decade. She is an award-winning watercolourist and a past member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC) and a past Fellow of the Ottawa Watercolour Society (OWS).

SUMMARY:Beginner 2 : Wheel throwing with Rosalie Gingras
DESCRIPTION:Ready to get your hands dirty\, again? This 6-week course is designed for beginners who have have taken at least one throwing class. The course focuses on honing your techniques\, and will push you to throw larger and more complex pieces. There will also be focus on more advanced decorating technics. \n   \nCourse information\n\nLanguage: This class will be held in French.\nClass timing: Wednesday from 18:30 to 21:30\nThis is a series of six classes starting on Wednesday November 4. The last class will be held on December 9.\nPlease note that the cost of the course includes the necessary clay and access to studio tools.\nThe class duration of 3 hours includes 30 minutes to clean-up the studio.\nThis class is for individuals 16 years old and up.\nPlease bring an apron and wear clothing that can be muddied!\n\nIf you are experiencing any difficulties with registration or payment\, please contact us at ceramique@lafabsurmill.ca. \nCourse outline\nCourse 1: Centre and throw larger quantities of clay. She then pursued studies in visual arts and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in art education. After exploring a wide variety of media\, she has focused primarily on ceramics for over ten years\, while continuing to paint occasionally. She now lives in Chelsea with her husband and their four children. \nPrerequisites\nYou must have taken at least one throwing class\, and should be comfortable centring one pound of clay and pulling a cylinder. \nMinimum Participation Policy\nA minimum of 4 participants is required to hold the workshop. La Fab reserves the right to cancel the event if there are not enough registrations. Experiment with different colours and papers to create a unique set of cards that reflect your own style. All envelopes are included\, so your finished cards are ready to send or give as thoughtful handmade gifts.\nLinocut is a versatile and rewarding printmaking technique that is easy to learn and suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.\nAll materials provided and the workshop will be taught in both English and French. \n.                  \n  \n \nKay Kerman is a retired art teacher and a member of the Board of Directors at La Fab sur Mill. She has a passion for printmaking\, using gelli plate and linocut techniques to create richly textured papers that become the foundation of her collage work. Her recent interest in bookbinding has provided a new way to showcase these hand-printed and collaged papers\, combining her love of printmaking\, mixed media\, and handmade books. \n

SUMMARY:The Art of Journalling with Katharine Fletcher
DESCRIPTION:The New Year is a time for fresh beginnings\, where artsy journaling is a relaxing way to experiment with new techniques which encourage a daily/weekly artsy practice. \nIn this one-day workshop Katharine introduces participants to a variety of techniques including Gelli-plate printmaking\, stamping\, collage\, acrylic painting\, and mixed-media mark-making. Participants will also have the opportunity to write a simple Japanese Haiku or add meaningful words\, quotes\, or personal reflections to their pages. You’ll leave with completed journal pages and the confidence to continue a creative journalling practice at home.\nKatharine provides a mixed-media journal along with a wonderful selection of papers and collage materials. Participants are welcome to bring favourite papers\, magazine clippings\, or small keepsakes to personalize their work. \nA $20 materials fee\, payable in cash to the instructor on the day of the workshop\, covers the journal and supplies.\nAll levels are welcome. No experience is necessary\, just bring your curiosity and creativity! \nGema and her husband\, Marc co-founded Pure Conscience Farm\, located near Shawville\, Quebec. They are passionate about sustainable and conscious agriculture\, raising yaks and layers with care and respect\, and creating handcrafted products that celebrate the beauty of nature.\nOne of Gema’s greatest passions is soap making.
