Job description: Studio Manager

Position Overview:
We are seeking a full time Studio Manager to oversee the daily operations of our pottery studio. The role combines administrative leadership and technical expertise. The Studio Manager will be responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, supporting teachers and artists, maintaining equipment, and managing kiln operations.
Responsibilities:
Administration & Operations:
- Manage studio scheduling, class registration, and event coordination.
- Oversee membership administration and customer communication.
- Handle invoicing, budgeting support, and supply ordering
- Maintain inventory of materials and tools.
- Address operational issues related to memberships, teachers, and students.
- Adhere to all Health and Safety protocols/standards and guidelines to ensure secure working environment.
Teacher & Student Coordination:
- Meet teachers on-site for onboarding and ensure clear communication on class procedures.
- Manage all communications with studio members, students, and teachers, including feedback, class progress, and follow-ups.
- Enter course details on the website, monitor registrations, and handle teacher contracts and payroll.
Studio Member Support & Programming:
- Welcome new members with introductory visits and studio tours.
- Plan and coordinate the studio’s participation in events such as the Open House during the Holiday Market.
- Assist with studio program planning and promote classes and workshops to the community.
Marketing & Communications:
- Promote the studio’s activities, workshops, and events through various marketing channels, such as Instagram, Facebook, newspaper and posters.
- Create and send newsletters via Mailchimp.
- Write engaging course descriptions and titles to promote offerings.
- Gather teacher bios and photos, including images of their work, for promotional use.
Technician responsibilities:
- Operate studio electric kiln: load and unload, calibrate, fire and log kiln firings and programs
- Maintain and operate other studio equipment including pugmill and other power tools
- Mix and test glazes. Maintain studio slips and glaze inventory..
- Address and resolve technical problems
- Move heavy items and kiln furniture (20kg)
- Maintain general organization and cleanliness of the studio
Budget, Financial and Other Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing the studio’s budget, ensuring that program needs and expenditures align with the La Fab’s mission and financial goals.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and other team members on program planning and budget allocation.
- Facilitate monthly meetings with advisory committee. Ensure regular communication with the head of the advisory committee.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual, with proficiency in both French and English required.
- Previous experience in studio management or a related field preferred.
- Diploma/degree (or other recognized technical qualification) specializing in ceramics, craft and design, or fine arts is an asset.
- Strong problem solving abilities to address issues related to equipment performance and firing outcomes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination with teachers, students, colleagues, stakeholders and the general public.
- Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in email and scheduling programs. WordPress experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with payroll systems and contract administration.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for promoting studio activities through newsletters and social media. Social media marketing experience is an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including teachers, members, and the broader community.
Employment terms:
This is a subcontract position with a possibility of transitioning to a permanent employee status.
Compensation:
Hourly rate of $30.00.
